International Finalists
Kathleen Champ
Kathleen joined FPS in Year 7 and was first
successful as a 3rd placed scenario writer.
After working in several different teams, she
joined a winning combination in 2004. At IC
in 2005 her team performed well, just missing
a top placing. After this, Kate, as she
preferred to be called, was keen to try again,
so on return from America she entered the
national individual GIPS competition and won
the Senior Division. In 2006 at IC Kate won
this same division and the school hailed her
as a “world champ”.
It wasn’t just winning. The whole experience
was wonderful —particularly meeting and
listening to ideas from students from so many
other countries .

While still at school, Kate helped to coach
younger students and in Year 9 she qualified
as a national evaluator. Kate received the
Torrance Award in 2006 for her outstanding
commitment to the program. She continued
to evaluate at national level for some years
including at the 2007 finals in Perth.

FPS was a major highlight of high school for me and it gave me opportunities to
travel interstate and overseas. I'm still friends with the people I worked in FPS
teams with, as well as with people I met on my trips to Nationals and Internationals.
