I became affiliated with Chick- Fil-A by going online and filling out what’s called the “Expression of Interest” and saying, “Hey, I would love to own a Chick-Fil-A restaurant, and I would love to do it in the southeast.” That started a journey for me for about two and a half years of interviewing with Chick-Fil-A. Finally, (I was given) the opportunity to come to beautiful Rabun County in Clayton and serve the commu- nity here. I decided (to move to Rabun Coun- ty) because when we came, they gave me the option, “Hey, there’s this opening coming up in Clayton. The owner is leaving. He’s going to a different restaurant. Would you like to go to Clayton?.” My wife Bon- nie and I came to Clayton on a Columbus Day back in 2015. When we came here the welcoming that we got from the people here (was amazing). Nobody knew who we were, but the southern hospitality here was like no other. Everybody embraces you and we were so welcomed like we were at home. It’s so beautiful. I go into partnership with Chick-Fil-A and I run the restaurant. They own the building and all the equip- ment, but I run it for them. In that partnership, we get to split expenses and other good stuff. They had to like me as a person and as a leader. Then, I got the op- portunity to come to Clayton, check it out, and seize the opportunity ’cuz this is a(n) awesome location, (and an) awesome community. One of my favorite things (about Chick-Fil-A) is that it is more than just a restaurant. Our guests are more than transac- tions. It’s a relationship. Like Ashlynn, I didn’t know you from Adam or Eve when you came in here the first time. With me, it’s 37
