He said to use transmission fluid. I told him he was crazy, but I did some research and it seems he may be right. Can you shed some light on this subject? On pretty much all pre-’98 Fords, you should use transmission fluid in the power steering — but not just any transmission fluid; it needs to be Type F. It has to do with the viscosity rating. Power steering fluid is slightly thicker, causing the pump to work harder than it’s designed to work.
