i t hit Mark Cuomo immediately. He didn’t have to sit and stew. He liked his Fox Mustangs, and when the new 5.0 “Coyote” engine was introduced in the 2011 Mustang, it was playing his song. “When Ford came out with the Coyote, I knew I wanted one in a Fox,” he says. Fox Mustangs and the 5.0 name are inseparable, but the new Coyote, with its four valves, overhead cam, and kicked-up horsepower, adds a whole new personality — one that Mark was anxious to get to know. He was looking for a Fox project for his wife, Jackie, and saw a nice ’84 T-top coupe at the Smokin’ Stangs event, a new rally in Laconia, New Hampshire. That did it. The hunt was on. Soon after, Mark located an original ’84 T-top coupe in Tennessee owned by Terry and Julie Allen. In September 2011, the transporter dropped it off, and right away it was disassembled. Mark knew the Coyote-powered Mustang would be long on performance, but he also wanted it to look as good as it ran.
