Send your questions, and a pic if possible, to [email protected]. Q The factory tach on my ’92 GT sticks on 3200 rpm. If the engine revs higher than that, the needle moves with the engine speed like it’s supposed to, but it always comes to rest on 3200 rpm. A lot of my driving is in town at slower speeds, and I’d sure like it to work right. What’s the best way to fix it — repair or replace? Talo Turbinado Miami, FL A Talo, without having the car present to diagnose the problem, it’s very difficult to accurately answer your question as there can be multiple reasons why your factory tachometer does not operate as it should. When the ignition is switched off, does the tach return to 0 rpm, or is it stuck at the 3200-rpm mark? I would check electrical connections to the coil and distributor for any damaged wires. If you find nothing, chances are the 88 FOXMustangMagazine.com TACH IT UP tachometer itself has failed. If that’s the case, you can check the popular Mustang websites’ (Mustangworld.com, Stangnet. com, Corral.net) classified-ad boards for a replacement Ford tachometer. If you choose an aftermarket tach to replace the stocker, try one of the many of the Mus tang parts companies (MRT, Latemodel Restoration, Summit, Jegs). These companies offer them in a variety of colors and features.
