port department for more details.
5: Most minor service rebuilds include bearings, seals, and small hardware. Wave washers (springs) place side loads on rotating parts
to keep clearances in check.

6: Aluminum case halves, heated in an oven,
expand so bearings and shafts fall right into
place. When cool, they contract and hold the
components securely. The lubricated O-ring
seals the drive chamber.
7: Case halves are joined together hot. Once
mated, they cool and contract before fasteners
are installed and torqued.
8: Because the centrifugal compressor’s impeller
whirls around at 50,000 rpm during high engine
revs, case clearances are crucial. Greg checks
clearances and chooses just the right shim,
which sets impeller to case clearance.
9: The impeller is heated, installed, and
torqued to specification.
10: The oil line fitting is installed on this V-1
supercharger. Greg uses pipe dope instead of
Teflon tape because it yields better results. He
then installs the drive pulley and performs an
operational check.
