HOW DO YOU TUNE BOOST? You either want to increase or decrease boost in your performance tuning, 1 1: Here are the two V-3 impellers. On the left is your standard V-3 SCi-Trim impeller. On the right is the Si-Trim impeller for even greater boost. The Si-Trim impeller is available as an upgrade to SCi-Trim owners for $250. 2: Two things we want to focus on here — pulley size ratio and belt traction. Vortech has 14 different pulley ratios available (both supercharger and crank pulley sizes) to help you fine-tune boost, including high-traction types to eliminate belt slippage. On the left is Vortech’s standard anodized pulley with eight ribs. On the right is a smaller high-traction 10-rib pulley with bead-blasted belt contact surface. The smaller the V-3 drive pulley, the greater the supercharger’s rpm and boost. Removing the anodized finish and adding ribs (contact surface) improves traction. If belt slippage is still observed in higher horsepower applications, 10-rib and cog belt drives are available (not pictured). fuel and spark curve in the interest of both durability and performance. There are two ways to increase or decrease boost — change impellers or change the size of the pulleys that drive them. change pulley ratio to increase V-3 speed and boost, you force the supercharger to work harder and hotter. This is OK to a certain level, but when higher efficiency and boost pressure are needed, you should swap the boost without increasing speed and heat. 2 Issue 1 FOX Mustang Magazine 79
