BOOSTING SPEED DENSITY FI
On speed density cars (’88 and earlier, or ’87 and earlier in California),
you can’t do much without the car not wanting to run correctly. Adding
1.72:1 ratio rocker arms (1.67:1 is stock) will pick up a little power, but
you must realize that if you want to really achieve horsepower gains,
you must convert to Mass Air so that the ECU can make the necessary
changes to the additional airflow.
AFTERMARKET
HEADERS / INTAKE
The biggest restriction of a 5.0
is getting the air in and out of the
head. A nice aftermarket intake
and a decent set of headers go a
long way, even on a set of stock
E7 heads.
CHIPPING UP FOR POWER
We can make a lot of power
with just a timing light and an
adjustable fuel-pressure regulator. But after countless mods to
your 5.0, a custom-burned chip
is the only answer to getting
your car running its best and
tapping all of its available
horsepower.
