Learners, Beginners, Intermediates each judged Boys and Girls and Advanced judged openly. It is a one day event so the kids get two judged rides, and numbers are limited to 35. Nick Gibson, head judge for the day commented, “It was harder to judge in some respects because the riders were of such a similar ability, it’s a great way to get the kids going and encourage growth of the sport”. It was interesting to see the names change divisions from last years event to this years commented Fay Haakma, organiser of the day. “As the children have grown their skills they are moving themselves up the divisions, also the number of girls Results coming through is big, so we find that very exciting. It’s all about encouraging them all to have a go, and to feel good about what they are able to do, giving them confidence to move on to the Norths and Nationals that Wake NZ run.” Word is getting out there that this is a great event and new sponsor, Urban Edge of Taupo Rob Hickling said he was impressed with the running of the day and was looking forward to continuing his involvement. It’s great kicking back watching the kids get together, its not only enjoying the wakeboarding, but the touch rugby, volleyball and anything else Brad Smeele could dream up as he was handing out Mountain Dew and Pop n Good popcorn, the atmosphere here was great. Each rider was presented with a medal at prize giving, winners and place getters took home trophies, certificates and loot from; Urban Edge, M I A wake boarding and Mastercraft, along with a special award for most promising rider being a board and binding set from Ronix.
