Mastercraft Boards & BBQs Words and Photo’s by Josiah Murray Mangakino was again host to the Mastercraft Boards and BBQ Groms Wakeboarding Competition. This competition was held for the first time last year with the intention to grow the sport within the younger generation. It was such a great success with a full field of riders the organisers were encouraged to go for it again. Saturday 19th March saw one of the first big misty mornings Mango produces at this time of year, but as the dawn broke the families arrived and the buzz began. The Crew at Mastercraft set the scene with the volley ball net, and there was no doubt the day was about kids, family and Wakeboarding. Whilst wakeboarding competitions are usually run with riders running in divisions determined by age groups, the Mastercraft Boards and BBQ Groms comp is ridden in divisions determined by skill level. Ralph from Wake NZ had the idea that if like level riders got the chance to compete together they would all push each other forward. There are 4 divisions....
