...as well as giving the slightly less experienced riders an idea of what the pressure of having only two
falls does to you! And boy did that pressure show, despite having got used to the huge wake from the
WakeTours boat, I think it is safe to say that almost everybody had a less sucessful second ride! The
exception for this may be the Open Mens division, who of course are more used to the two pass, two
falls format. The standard of riding was high, and the tricks were packed in, I’m sure Josho managed
to throw more tricks in his final pass than anybody else did in their entire run, earning himself the
win. I managed a respectable second place, with a whirly, off-axis five, going down on hard on a
whirly 5. Riley Bathurst suprised himself sticking a clean tantrum to blind right infront of the crowds,
which secured him third place.
And if all this wakeboarding and wakeskate action wasn’t enough, there was a final chance for everyone to show off their talents in the rail jam. Several of the rails had taken a bit of a battering from the
Wakesetters huge wake and were less than straight, so well done to everyone that hit them!
All in all this was a great event, and one that I’m sure will grow in numbers for next year. I’m sure
some tweaks will be made to the runnings to allow the freestyle format that the competition is aiming
for. Thanks to everybody who helped make the competition a success, including all of the riders,
spectators, organisers and sponsors, drivers, judge’s etc!
