JAM AKE W Words and photo’s: Luke Thomas I headed down to WakeJam after riding the previous day in Twizel, which was pretty lucky as my sources who told me the comp was being held in ‘Cromwell’ may have slightly under-estimated the travel time to Miller’s flat! The site for WakeJam was well and truley out in the sticks (that is if you exclude the buzzing town of Ettrick). But boy was the travel worth it for a chance to hit the lake, which stayed glassy all day long! The setting was perfect, no wind, and the sun came out just as the riding started kicking off behind the weighted Malibu VLX provided by WakeTours of Queenstown. The turn-out from the wakeboarders was pretty good, although it has to be said that the skaters dominated on the day, with the Mens Skate division having about 15 entries. Riders got under-way as part of the ‘Free Ride’ format for the comp, which worked really well, allowing the riders to showcase themselves to the best of of normal competition rules. The Bo 1, for the most part it was the Grom stop them throwing it down, with An up in the Mens division the standard entry throwing at least one invert a spins.
