40 FORWARD ANATOMY talk LIVING WITH POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER Each year, thousands of men and women are diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop when a person experiences a horrifying, shocking and/or terrifying event. Although those whom suffer from PTSD can often learn to cope with the deep mental, physical and emotional scars that they have endured; daily living can be quite the challenge. To feel “well” takes an incredible amount of effort, courage and heart; and the chronic state of stress that one’s body lives in can be draining and debilitating. The demands placed on a person’s body, who is living with PTSD, are astronomical and often overwhelming.
