WHAT INSPIRED YOU
TO JOIN?
MDW: I was going
through a rough time in
my life that compelled
me to join. I had just
gone through a failed
marriage at the age of
19, and was alone in
New Mexico with no
family near. I was barely
making ends meet as a
waitress and I wanted
so bad to turn my life
around and further my
education without additional financial stress.
I had a feeling I was
destined to do more
and be more with the
adamant desire to be a
contributing member
of society. I wanted
to look back at my life
and say “I did my part
to serve our country”.
I knew that joining
would be my way of
giving back and being
a part of something
larger than myself, all
while allowing me to
get on my feet. That’s
when I decided to go
for it and enlist in the
military. And I must
say, it’s been one of
the best decisions I’ve
made for myself. Being

Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico this 28
year old currently serves in the Army National
Guard as a Sergeant and will drop down and
give you 100 in a heart beat. She even once
beat an infantryman at a pushup contest
124 to 101…in a dress! Who’s next?
We don’t think there is any question as to why we chose Melody as
our cover girl. Strong, positive,
and inspiring, she is the embodiment of what Forward
Movement is all about.
