CONVERSATION
Q&A WITH
Nat Rochner, IFBB Pro
CAN YOU
EXPLAIN
MORE ABOUT
THE KETOSIS
DIET? WHAT
IS THE
SCIENCE
BEHIND IT?
To put it simply, a Keto diet is
a very low carb meal pattern
where the body produces
ketones in the liver used as
energy. By lowering your intake of carbs, the body shifts
into a metabolic state of
ketosis. Your nutrition intake
should be around 70% fats,
25% protein and 5% carbs.

DO YOU ALWAYS
LIFT HEAVY, OR DO
YOU HAVE DAYS YOU
DO HIGH REPS WITH
LIGHTER WEIGHT?
No, I do not always lift
heavy! I like to change
up my workout routines
regularly. Many people
concentrate too much
on the amount of weight
they’re lifting and forget
about form, safety and
contraction.
AS A PERSONAL
TRAINER, DO YOU
PREFER CLIENTS
WHO ARE COMPETING OR “REGULAR”
PEOPLE?
I have clients of all
ages, backgrounds and
goals. I don’t prefer
one over another. All I
want is a client to show
up, work hard and
follow the plan.
WHAT IS YOUR
IDEAL CLIENT?
To elaborate on the previous question, my ideal
client is simply someone
who is dedicated, driven
and motivated. You can
not “coach” these things.
The individual must
possess these attributes
themselves.
HOW DID YOU
GET STARTED
WITH ROCH
FITNESS?
I originally became
a certified personal
trainer my freshman
year in college to earn
some extra money. I
eventually graduated
with my Bachelors
of Science in Fitness
and Human Performance and accepted a
teaching and coaching
position for the school
district of my home
town. After competing
and earning my IFBB
pro card, I switched
gears to follow my true
passion and started my
own personal training
business known as
ROCH Fitness LLC.
DO YOU
EVER HAVE A
PROBLEM
WITH BINGE
EATING?
If so, how do you
combat it? As much as
I hate to admit it, I have
had several struggles
with binge eating post
competition and in the
off-season. It is a mental
game that I am working
on improving each
year. While in competition prep, I follow
my diet exactly as is.
However, it is after my
shows that I struggle.

I’ve learned to stay focused on my goals and
I realize that no food is
worth the work I’ve put
in to create and shape
my body. Allowing myself a cheat meal once a
week tends to help.
HOW MANY
HOURS OF SLEEP
DO YOU GET EACH
NIGHT? WHAT DO
YOU RECOMMEND?
I do not get near enough
sleep. That is something
I am consciously working on to improve. Sleep
is so important to your
overall health, however,
with my schedule I tend
to get only about 4-5
hours a night during the
week. 8 hours is ideal!
DO YOU PREFER
TO TRAIN WITH A
PARTNER OR BY
YOURSELF?
I prefer to train by
myself. I like to put my
headphones in and
work uninterrupted.
However, on heavier
days, I like to have a
partner for a spot. Or
simply on those days
where I am tired and
fatigued, it’s nice to
have someone to help
push you.
