PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Crazy HairDay

We have crazy hair and we really care
Seldom is there an occasion , an event , an outpouring of love , care , generosity , compassion and sacrifice for others as great as our Preparatory School Crazy Hair Day ; our version of the Leukemia Foundation World ’ s Greatest Shave . On Friday 16 March 2018 the Preparatory School community rallied together in a colourful , creative and truly meaningful manner to show our care for all those who are , and have , suffered at the hands of leukaemia .
On Friday 16 March the Preparatory School was ablaze with colour , impressive creativity and emotional participation as every student , staff member and members of our parent community played their part to visually demonstrate their care , their love and their deep compassion . What a joy it was to see how much trouble our students and our staff had put into their crazy hair . The view of all this creativity from the stage was extremely touching and heart-warming , illustrating just how much we really care about others in need .
Mrs Lyn Gass addressed the Assembly , sharing her own message of hope and her deep sense of gratitude for all the love and support she has , and will continue to receive .
Our 200 Club members , all 32 of them , raised more than $ 200 each , many far in excess of that , and sacrificed all their hair during the assembly . The students had their hair completely shaved off by “ qualified ” cutters , or shearers , with no guarantee of quality ! Two of our girls in the 200 Club had their hair coloured as their own symbol of support . In total , our 200 Club members raided more than $ 19,000 on their own . The entire Preparatory School raised some $ 24,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation , taking our total over the past decade to approximately $ 132,000 ; a staggering contribution with much fun and laughter along the way .
Two of our staff members also sacrificed their hair during this Assembly . Father Philip Raymont had his annual beard trim and Mrs Linda Budler had her hair shaved very short . We salute them both for their participation .
May our Crazy Hair Day continue to thrive into the future , and may our community always rally together on occasions like this , to show exactly what we are made of . You are a truly special community . With grateful thanks and appreciation from the Leukaemia Foundation and those within our community bravely fighting this personal battle .
Mr Roger Budler Deputy Head of Preparatory School
