Cycling
to success
Three Guildford Grammar School
students, James Derrick (11SG), John
Carter (10Wb) and Sally Carter (8Wb)
have been making their mark in competitive
cycling circles. This year the trio have
competed at the Junior Track Cycling State
Championships, the Junior Track Cycling
Nationals and the Centrals Junior Tour in
Adelaide. Having competed in cycling for
the last three to five years, the Guildford
Grammar School students have been
achieving successful results at competitions
throughout the year.
his sights very high, hoping to gain a medal
at the next Junior Road Cycling National
Championships and to be accepted into the
Australian Track Cycling Team as a first year
U19 in 2019.
James seeks inspiration from fellow
competitive cyclist, Cameron Meyer: a nine-
time Track World Champion and World Tour
Road Cyclist.
In the short term, James is focusing on
graduating Year 12, but ultimately hopes to
devote more time to cycling to compete at
a World Tour Level and achieve his dream
of representing Australia at the World
Championships and the Olympics for cycling.
