PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Netball Mania in the Prep School !

Netball has taken off in the Preparatory School this year , with three new netball initiatives being launched in Term 3 and a new Head Coach appointed to lead the way !
Netball Coach Sherrie Errington has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Netball at Guildford Grammar School . Sherrie comes to us with a Level 2 and soon to be Level 3 Advanced Accreditation Certificate in Coaching Netball . She is very passionate about netball and has been coaching it for over 30 years , from Albany to Geraldton , Port Hedland to Alice Springs and Darwin to Perth . She has coached from grassroots juniors through to seniors , from Division 5 through to Open Division 1 .
Sherrie was the Head Coach of the Aranmore Jets , who competed in the Perth Netball Association . During her 10 years with the club her teams won nine ( 9 ) premiership flags . Sherrie was also the Head Coach for the Alice Springs under 21s , NT Indigenous under 21s , the Perth Bullets and most recently the Perth Lions Academy and Pride Squads .
Sherrie comes to us most recently from Netball WA , where she has been working as a Community Development Officer . Her role enabled her to deliver netball programs to students at schools and recreation centres across the Perth metropolitan area , including the Shooting Stars program to the Indigenous students of the Wiluna Remote Community School .
Sherrie will be working closely with other coaches across the school to create a coaching pathway that will grow and develop the game of netball here at the School . We are really excited to be working with Sherrie and already the students have benefited from her amazing knowledge and enthusiasm for the game .
In Sherrie ’ s words , “ Our philosophy and focus will be skill-based , encouraging our netballers to strive for individual excellence , coupled with learning to work together and reaching our final goal of uniting as one team . I ’ m excited to be a part of the GGS netball program .”
NetSetGo Clinics In Terms 2 and 3 , NetSetGo clinics are being offered as part of the after school clubs program for students in Years 1-4 . In these clinics students will learn foundational ball and footwork skills whilst developing their understanding of attack and defence play in the game . Head Coach Sherrie and her specialist coaches will oversee the running of these clinics .
GGS Netball Club The third new initiative is the GGS Netball Club , which has three inaugural teams ( two from Year 4 and one from Year 5 / 6 ) registered to play in the Perth Netball Association Competition on Friday afternoons at Matthew ’ s Netball Centre in Floreat . These students are representing the School in the new GGS netball uniform and are being trained by specialist coaches during the week on the Preparatory School netball courts next to the Out of School Care building . The GGS Netball Club will expand next year to include incoming Year 7 , 8 and 11 students . Head Coach Sherrie will also oversee the development and growth of these teams as well as the future development of the club .
JPSSA Netball Season Our two JPSSA netball teams will continue to play local schools in after school inter-school matches as well as competing in the local Schools Winter Sports Lightning Carnival in May and the Swan Districts Netball Lightning Carnival in August . Sherrie , with the help of Ms Fiona Marsh and Ms Carys Nichols , will be coaching and developing these two teams across the 2017 winter season .
We are looking forward to a great year in netball at Guildford Grammar School !
