Harmony Day
On Tuesday 21 March the Preparatory School
combined their KINDNESS theme with national
Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a celebration of our
cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone
who calls Australia home. The message of Harmony
Day across Australia was ‘everyone belongs’, and the
Day aimed to engage people to participate in their
community, respect cultural and religious diversity and
foster a sense of belonging for everyone. We thought
this year’s themes of Growth and Kindness fit perfectly
with the spirit of Harmony Day.
Thanks to the support of the School’s Parents and
Friends’ Society, every student and staff member in the
Preparatory School wore a unique Believe There is
Kindness shirt for Harmony Day. Classes had a mix of
activities throughout the week to promote diversity and
kindness both at the School and in the wider community.
A wonderful initiative from Mrs Elliott saw students paint
rocks with messages of “kindness” and spread these
treasures around our campus. They are still there now if
you walk around the Preparatory School.
We also set the students a challenge to wear their
Kindness t-shirts in the community and wherever
they went on their holiday travels and get pictures
of themselves with other people. The response was
tremendous … and the best part has been the stories
students and staff have told of the conversations that
resulted from wearing their shirts. And … they spread
kindness.
