Your chosen instrument/s:
Trumpet, Trombone, Alto, Tenor and Baritone
Saxes & Sousaphone
How did you come to choose these
instruments?
I was only given the option of learning
Trumpet after completing the infamous
“Bentley Test” in Year 4 but dabbled in other
instruments throughout high school. I was
asked to join a band, playing trombone, after
leaving university and thought it was a good
way to spend some more practical time on
the instrument - enforced practice if you will.
Since then it has often been the case that I
will fill the void in a band after a member has
left or is sick/unavailable and this has seen
me playing everything from baritone sax to
electric bass and drums to flute. I am a selfprofessed jack of all trades but my first love
(and the instrument which I practice when
I have the time and opportunity) is always
trumpet!
Are you a part of any band, orchestra or
ensemble? If so what is the name and
where do you perform?
Far too many ensembles to mention all of
them here but I consider myself a freelance
musician so I will often play or record with a
group of musicians only a couple of times.
Having said this, I also play in numerous
bands, many of which I manage and write
the music for. Muchos Mariachi, Nueva Salsa
Orchestra, Oompah Brass, Chameleon Brass
Band, Swingshift Big Band, Perth Jazz Society
Big Band and Beans Buma’s Boys of Rhythm.
I have also been known to do professional
stage productions and even some orchestral
work! I often play at festivals - either roaming
or on large stages - in front of thousands of
people, so there is every chance that I will run
into someone I know at some stage whilst
performing.
Your most memorable performance?
This is a difficult question. The first time I
played a Big Day Out festival, the St Kilda
Fest in front an audience of 450,000, a
Quentin Edmonds
Martin Pervan
wedding down south where the couple had
flown in John Farnham and Marcia Hines,
the support gig for Lionel Ritchie, playing
in a band with James Morrison at the helm,
overseas gigs, too many to choose from!
The first album you ever owned?
Count Basie Big Band and Duke Ellington
Orchestra’s together First Time.
The last album you bought?
Passion World by Kurt Elling.
Describe yourself in five songs!
I would need a month to adequately answer
this question, sorry!

family were all performers.
Your most memorable performance?

When I was in primary school, I loved
playing the recorder and when I heard that
the School of Instrumental Music offered
flute lessons, I used to play the recorder out
of the side of my mouth, imagining that
it was a flute. This led me to the study of
Music Education and flute at UWA. After
graduation, I decided to take up singing
more seriously, though I had been singing
in church and in various choirs for as long
as I can remember. I started piano lessons
quite recently and it seems that attaining a
workable level of skill on this beast will be a
lifelong endeavour!
Are you a part of any band, orchestra or
ensemble? If so what is the name and
where do you perform?
I sing with the St Georges Cathedral Choir
and Consort, which sings weekly at the
Cathedral and also presents several concerts
each year. We recently performed Bach’s
St John Passion with WASO, conducted by
Asher Fisch. I occasionally play gigs on the
flute or recorder as well but most of my
playing is for Preparatory School students.
Your most memorable performance?
My very first public performance on the flute
was very memorable, as I played with my
arm in a cast.
The first album you ever owned?
Elton John – Empty Sky.
The James Galway Collection – a CD of
popular classical tunes played on the flute.
The last album you bought?
The last album you bought?
Cold Chisel – The Perfect Crime.
My recent purchases have been choral
music from choirs such as Kings College and
Tenebrae, which I listen to as I am learning
my part (alto).
