PR E PA R ATORY S C HO OL Service and giving The theme for this edition of the Forward magazine is so incredibly well timed. In the Preparatory School our themes for 2018 were Gratitude and Bravery; essentially giving thanks to and for others and bravery serving others. Programs for 2018 ranged from our Service Learning Program, our Anglican Christmas Gifts, fundraising for the Children’s Hospital by our Year 4’s, our Year 1 Market Garden Day raising over $2,000 for the Red Cross and our recent Christmas Carols where students and families gave an enormous number of gifts and funds for Anglicare. We have been busy thinking of others, doing for others and serving others. The themes have been a powerful force for students, staff and community reflection and action. in service to others and to giving what we can for those in need. Roger lived these words and they will always be a significant part of Guildford Grammar School. Below are the wonderfully creative and appropriate lyrics written by Old Guildfordian Izaak Lim (94-06), to the song Circle of Life presented live at Mr Budler’s farewell assembly. All of us are incredibly grateful for Roger’s impact and legacy. These words convey what we all feel and admire about Mr Budler and the legacy he leaves at Guildford Grammar School, of service, respect and giving of our self for the last 20 years for the students, staff and families of the Preparatory School. All of us are incredibly grateful for Roger’s impact and legacy. However, the theme of Service and Giving this year must also focus on Mr Budler and the legacy he leaves in the Preparatory School. Mr Budler’s consistent message over the years has always centred on the important role each student and family plays We will always use words such as respect, service and giving with an image of the impeccable Mr Budler. Mr Clark Wight Head of Preparatory School To serve and to strive Circle of Life adaptation by Izaak Lim (94-06) From the day you arrived at the prep school, we admired your South African flair; Your immaculate dress, and your rugby prowess and your discipline firm but always fair You fostered respect and connection, in your role as our Deputy Head; You could bring out the best, help us pass every test, we’ve been inspired by all that you’ve said 28 Chorus: To serve and to strive, what you taught us all; To respect and to hope, to guide with love; How to live and grow, your example shining; How to serve, to serve and to strive. You’ll be missed by your friends in the staffroom, you’ll be missed by the kids you’ve inspired; You’ve been such a good man, and doing all that you can, to go above and beyond what’s required After 20 great years, now you’re leaving, we couldn’t thank you enough if we tried; For the learning and fun, and the rest that you’ve done, we all wish you good luck and goodbye Chorus
