FAREWELL ROGER BUDLER
A fond farewell for
Mr Roger Budler
At the end of 2018 we bid a fond farewell
to Mr Roger Budler after 20 dedicated
years of service to the School. A special
assembly was held for Mr Budler and his
family, at the GGS Boat Shed, where all
members of the community, past and
present, were able to pay their respects.
The Assembly was an amazing team effort,
coordinated across many areas of the School.
The MC for the morning was Year 6 student
Omal Deeyagaha Waduge, who did a great
job of introducing the guests and keeping the
program running on time.
Special guest and accomplished performer,
Old Guildfordian Izaak Lim (Prep/Sc 94-06),
travelled from inter-state for the special
occasion, opening the Assembly with a
10
version of the song “Circle of Life”, written
about and for Mr Budler.
The speeches focused on various aspects
of Mr Budler’s time at the School and were
delivered by Lemarna Valentine (7Wb
and former Preparatory School student), Mr
Nic Christie (St 93-97), former Preparatory
School Sportsmaster and Old Guildfordian,
and Nick Palmer – Past GGS 1st XV Rugby
Player (He 10-17).
Dr Saxby lead the Preparatory School Choir
in a rousing performance of the well-known
rugby anthem “World in Union” and the
Parent Choir debuted with a performance
of “Siahamba”. There was not a dry eye in
the house when three Preparatory School
students, Kelsi Brennan, Riley Wight and
Mikaela Hyman sang “Time of your Life” as
a photographic tribute to Mr Budler’s time at
the School played on a large screen.
