PR E PA R ATORY S C HO OL Special moments and new spaces Semester 2 is always loaded with exciting events that complement the core business of learning at Guildford Grammar School. This year we started the semester a little later after the three-week winter break, an initiative that received much positive feedback and endorsement. Students and staff members were well rested in preparation for the term ahead. Book Week was a highlight that attracted great attention in the community, with a wonderful culminating photograph being included in an article in the West Australian. The Where’s Wally theme was a great hit and I am sure costume sellers would have been amazed by the spike in sales at this time. Book Week is really an expression of the culture of reading that exists within the School. The Library is an exciting hub in the School and the love of reading is the result of strong reading habits created by parents and teachers. It is something that is taken for granted at Guildford Grammar School, but the truth is, that a lot of work has gone in over the years to create this culture. Camps, Eisteddfods, carnivals, fundraising events and tours, not to mention clubs, weekly sport and music, with a drama production thrown in for good measure, activities such as Drama, Music and OptiMinds, cannot be measured but is integral to our plans to create well-rounded young men and women. The Service to Others Program, and the various giving drives that we value in the School, also help develop a sense of compassion and responsibility. It is this kaleidoscope of experiences that you will see filling the pages of this wonderful publication. Remember as you read, that all this works together to help us achieve our purpose. Mr Justin Krause are the broader features of a school like Guildford Grammar School, that we value so greatly. The academic program, the desire to provide the best possible teaching and learning experiences for our students, and opportunities to demonstrate excellence, are a given at a school such as ours. The broader aims, such as developing teamwork, spirituality, compassion, respect and integrity are developed in a wide array of other experiences that the School provides for the students. The learning that comes through sport and committing to A clear highlight of this semester is the realisation of our new buildings. From discussions, ideas, student and staff feedback and of course education specialists, was born the concept that we have been working towards. It has unfolded before our eyes, and as we neared completion, the excitement amongst the students and the community has grown.
