Special moments and new spaces
Semester 2 is always loaded with exciting
events that complement the core business
of learning at Guildford Grammar School.
This year we started the semester a little
later after the three-week winter break,
an initiative that received much positive
feedback and endorsement. Students
and staff members were well rested in
preparation for the term ahead.
Book Week was a highlight that attracted
great attention in the community, with a
wonderful culminating photograph being
included in an article in the West Australian.
The Where’s Wally theme was a great hit
and I am sure costume sellers would have
been amazed by the spike in sales at this
time. Book Week is really an expression of
the culture of reading that exists within the
School. The Library is an exciting hub in the
School and the love of reading is the result
of strong reading habits created by parents
and teachers. It is something that is taken
for granted at Guildford Grammar School,
but the truth is, that a lot of work has gone
in over the years to create this culture.
Camps, Eisteddfods, carnivals, fundraising
events and tours, not to mention clubs,
weekly sport and music, with a drama
production thrown in for good measure,
activities such as Drama, Music and OptiMinds, cannot be measured but is integral
to our plans to create well-rounded young
men and women. The Service to Others
Program, and the various giving drives that
we value in the School, also help develop
a sense of compassion and responsibility. It
is this kaleidoscope of experiences that you
will see filling the pages of this wonderful
publication. Remember as you read, that all
this works together to help us achieve our
purpose.

are the broader features of a school like
Guildford Grammar School, that we
value so greatly. The academic program,
the desire to provide the best possible
teaching and learning experiences for our
students, and opportunities to demonstrate
excellence, are a given at a school such as
ours. The broader aims, such as developing
teamwork, spirituality, compassion, respect
and integrity are developed in a wide
array of other experiences that the School
provides for the students. The learning that

A clear highlight of this semester is
the realisation of our new buildings.
From discussions, ideas, student and
staff feedback and of course education
specialists, was born the concept that
we have been working towards. It has
unfolded before our eyes, and as we neared
completion, the excitement amongst the
students and the community has grown.
The first formal introduction to the building
was all that was required to know that
we had struck a chord with the students
through the exciting learning spaces.
