Book Week
Preparatory School students
catch the reading bug!
Term 3 saw book fever sweep through
the Preparatory School as the Annual Book
Week Celebrations got under way. This
year’s theme for Book Week was ‘Connect
to Reading’. Based on the fact that our
world is heavily text based and even more
so when we add technology to the mix –
we are constantly reading emails, posts,
social media, online news, Internet sites
and texts. The students were involved in
many activities to celebrate the importance
of reading and literacy and the enjoyment
provided by sitting down with a good book.
Book Week started early in Term 3 with a
Scholastic Book Fair all about ‘Catching the
Reading Bug’. It was a highly successful
Book Fair, selling just under $11,000 worth
of books, reaffirming our students’ love
of reading. The Library was packed before
and after school with students wanting to
purchase many fantastic books. A big thank
you to all the parent volunteers that assisted
during this week. Many an excited child
headed home with their books, ready to
read the hours away!
The most anticipated part of our Book Week
celebrations is always the Book Week dressup assembly. This year all were encouraged
to come as their favourite book character.
Once again Priestley Hall was a sight to
be seen, full of imagination and creativity.
There were amazing costumes in all year
levels, from Harry Potter to Cat in the Hat.
Many teachers collaborated this year to
come as groups such as the Wizard of Oz,
Thingy 1 & 2 and Peter Pan.
