RESEARCH
World-class
research
Keele’s position as a leading university
for research of world class quality and
international excellence was confirmed
in the UK Research Excellence Framework
(REF), published in January 2015. The REF
assesses the quality of research in all higher
education institutions in the UK.
The survey found that 97% of the university’s
research is classed as world leading and
of international importance. The university
saw improvement in all 17 disciplines that
were submitted. Keele produces top rated
research in all of our three faculties: Health,
Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural
Sciences. The REF results reveal that the
university’s world class research is conducted
across a wide spectrum of subject areas.
Keele’s performance has improved
significantly since the last research
assessment exercise in 2008. Some units of
assessment were particularly outstanding;
and our research in Primary Care and Health
Sciences, Science and Technology, Pharmacy,
Chemistry, Life Sciences and History are
among the best in the UK. The results also
show that research at Keele is having a
genuine impact on the world around us with
all areas having highly ranked examples
where society has benefited demonstrably
from the research undertaken at Keele.
