Luke Bryan, ‘Roller Coaster’ At the show I mentioned earlier that I booked for the Trashettes, the line up also included The Girlfriends (see previous issue), and four of the nicest guys you may know as Bocanegra. Showcasing rock and roll with strobe lights and stage theatrics, I always enjoy getting a little dizzy in the front row. Here's what the lead singer and the bassist had to say about their band: Who is Bocanegra? Meghan Trainor 1. Meghan Trainor, All About That Bass 2. Taylor Swift, Shake It Off 3. Maroon 5, Maps CB: Bocanegra is myself (Carlos Bocanegra) and a revolving door of talented musicians who constantly expand their artistic vision. Currently, in the US, they are Dom Rubano (Drums), Quique Rodriguez-Pastor (Bass), and Rene Roman (Guitar). QRP: I'm also committed to an entirely different band (The Tyler Nail Trio) so I only get to play with Bocanegra if and when I'm available. What's been the most rewarding thing about being in the band? CB: I've toured South America with Bocanegra for many years now, so it's been amazing to come home and become a part of a growing independent art scene. QRP: Getting to play a style of music that I typically don't play outside of this project. I very much enjoy getting on stage and playing these songs with my band mates and friends. What are you most looking forward to for the future of the band? CB: I think Bocanegra offers a style that isn't common in Winston-Salem, much less our state. With that said, we'll continue to push the boundaries of what people think "Latin Rock" is or how Latinos are viewed in general. We've still got a lot of walls to break through. QRP: I look forward to seeing Carlos's vision come to fruition. Last words? CB: Every big band was a local band somewhere. Support the scene!!! 47 Fall 2014, Volume 7, No.36
