with with HARVEST HARVEST WILLIAMS WILLIAMS Cheryl Barnes “Listen to This” The title track, “Listen To This”, has a swinging band backing the vocalist. This song was written by the leaders’ husband, Phillip Cabasso. The pace slows down with ”I Wish You Love”, a song I remember from the 1960’s featuring Gloria Lynn, but Cheryl makes this one her own. Joni Mitchell’s composition, “Come In From The Cold”, gives a fresh perspective of the songs’ meaning; this is the longest selection on the project, and it’s oh so soulful. “What’s On Your Mind” has Cheryl Barnes having a good time attempting to discover what her man is thinking. Bassist Rickey Minor, leader of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, fits in nicely with the band. “Baby’s Got Some Awful Kind Of Blues” has Ms. Barnes pouring her heart out as she interprets the lyrics of this moving song. Another selection from this recording that takes me away is “What’s Fair In Love”. Noland Shaheed plays some serious trumpet alongside the vocalist.
