Maltby Main Maltby Main I FOOTBALL CLUB t was a difficult start to the campaign for Maltby Main FC as a Manager stepped down in the off-season but the new set up has enjoyed a fine start. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with CEO Darrell Johnson, Chairman Wilf Race and Treasurer Peter Kenny to find out more about the club. They told us, “After an uncertain start to the season due to a failed appointment of a new manager, the mood is now buoyant as a result of the appointment of a three man management team that have restored the teams DNA. We now have a group of players that play for the badge and give 100% commitment. Results have been terrific with the club sitting in 4th position.” “The start to the season could not have gone any better; we are more than happy with the points per game ratio of 2. You hear a lot of clubs saying let’s get to the magic number that keeps a club safe from relegation and that’s exactly our first target. Who knows where we could finish in this seasons league campaign. I have been around football long enough to know that success can become failure at any time so we’ll take nothing for granted. “Youth football is very important to the club. We have teams competing at all age groups within Maltby Main Football Club and we always look to progress young lads. Ultimately, it would be fantastic for a lad to start playing in the under 7’s and continue through to the first team. “In regards to our facilities, our groundsman does a fantastic job on the pitch with the limited resources at his disposal. We would like to invest in an irrigation system which would get regular water to the pitch rather than depend on rainy days. We are currently looking at options on funding this project which will cost the club in the region of £4k . “Our biggest challenge moving forwards is that of the ground lease. The ground lease is in the hands of the local Miners Welfare which, with the demise of the coal mining industry, is under financial stress. We need to plan to ensure that the club can continue should the worst happen.” 81
