In his latest Football Focus column , Arena Group UK and Europe ’ s Director of Sales and Marketing Dave Withey takes us back to 2012 , and the time his company helped a French football club create an English-style stadium
THE French have given us some wonderful things over the years ; Champagne , croissants , Brigitte Bardot and Fabien Barthez spring to mind . So it ’ s only fair we should occasionally return the favour .
I ’ m not talking about Chris Waddle ’ s spell at Olympique Marseille , but the stadium Arena Seating fitted out with highquality British seats in 2012 .
While the eyes of the sporting world were on London and the Olympics – which we were heavily involved in as well – Arena Seating was working on a fascinating international project in the town of Le Havre , in Normandy .
The club had decided to move from their old ground , the Stade Jules Deschaseaux , which held just over 16,000 and was looking outdated in an era of new , modern stadiums .
Geographically they only moved a few hundred yards to a disused railway siding and goods yard , but in terms of upgrading the club ’ s facilities it was a huge leap forward .
