FOOTBALL CLUB
Boston Town FC didn’t enjoy the campaign they would have liked last
time around but have been working hard during the off-season in order to
improve. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Chairman
Mick Vines to find out more about how the club has been getting along.
He told us, “This will be my 29th season as Chairman. I’ve
been involved for 48 years in total and was trainer when we
played Barnsley in the first round proper of the FA Cup also
witnessing us make it to within one game of Wembley when
we reached the semi-final of the FA Vase.”
“The biggest challenges of my role are finding the expenses
for players, keeping the club financially stable and not over
spending which can be very easy to do. The expense clubs have
to find before a ball is kicked is frightening.
“After four seasons of struggling we are looking forward
to better things this time around on the pitch having resolved
most of the off-field problems. In recent years it has been a
struggle just to keep the club going but now we can get back to
focusing on being one of the best teams in the United Counties
League.
“We have always run youth teams and believe that it is a
major benefit for the local kids to get into football. This season
we have introduced an U21 team which will be locking horns
with some big clubs so it will be interesting to see how they get
on. We are hoping that having this side will help some of the
younger boys make the transition into first team football.
“We are a community club and have always helped local
charities where possible. We also let the local Indian community
use the pitch for their fun day and have a European team that
plays very week as well.
“We are working to have our floodlights upgraded
currently which is looking likely and we should pass our
ground grading. We are always on the lookout for new
volunteers and will eventually need to find a new Chairman
to take over my role.
“It is also our ambition to open an academy next season; we
are putting everything in place at the moment and if everyone
stays on board I see no reason why it will not happen - bring
on the new season!”
