Bolton Lads and Girls Bolton Lads and Girls CLUB Bolton Lads and Girls Club has been in operation since 1889 and aims for every young person in Bolton to have the opportunity to be the best they can be. Currently, they have over 3000 active members aged between 8 to 25 years. The football section of the club has run for over 50 years and most recently received significant investment to revamp their football home that is known as ‘Hacken Lane’. Their Commercial Manager Andrew Tower recently took the time to tell Football Focus Magazine more about the good work the club has been doing lately. Atmosphere He told us, “There’s been a real buzz around Hacken Lane since we built the new facilities and this continues to grow. Our players, volunteers, and parents are so positive about what the changes have meant for our young people such as all year round football, changing facilities and on site catering. Because of this ‘buzz’, we have football coaches carrying out volunteer work at the venue making sure that preparations for the new season ahead are as advanced as possible; other grounds staff are putting in volunteer hours because they take pride in their incredible facility. This wouldn’t happen without the positive vibe around the club.” Last Season “The season has been a very successful one for the club as it has seen an increase in membership where we increased the number of teams from 15 to 25. We began our women’s section by setting up an open age women’s team who won two cup tournaments. One of our senior teams won their league and gained back to back promotions as a result. Further success has been evident by our younger teams being able to play football all year round without having to worry about any overnight rain meaning cancelled games the following morning!” 2017 “In short, there are many plans for the rest of the year! However, a huge emphasis is going to be placed on developing our girl’s football programme alongside the up-skilling of our volunteer coaches through a mentoring programme and additional coach education courses. On top of this, we have agreed a fantastic new sponsorship deal with AO.com that will mean we can fully kit out all of our teams even more than previous years.” Success “It can’t be underestimated how much our success over the past 12 months is due to the new facilities. This has attracted more and more young www.footballfocusmag.com 55
