Seven points off a play-off place last term was by far Barrow ’ s best ever non-League season .

A repeat of the seventh place finish will be enough for a play-off place under the new arrangements for this season . But Barrow will want to do better than that .
However as the clock ticked closer towards the season ’ s start , manager Paul Cox was still hunting for quality recruits to take his squad to his target of 22 men .
But he won ’ t panic . One of his last signings last summer was Byron Harrison and he turned out a real gem , scoring goals for fun .
Cox ’ s search has been far and wide . At one time the Bluebirds looked no further than recruiting players from the Manchester / Liverpool area . This time Cox ’ s training sessions and pre-season games have had a United Nations look with the manager casting his eye over trialists from France , Germany and Holland .
Fans have faith in Cox – as does club owner Paul Casson who knows his money will be spent wisely . Why else would close to 200 fans turn up for a Meet the Manager , Owner and Scout ( Paul Ogden ) Evening ? After all some older supporters can recall when the club didn ’ t get that many people at matches !
The confidence is in Cox because his recruiting transformed Barrow into a selling club in the summer as two players he picked up for nothing moved into the Football League . Tricky winger Jordan Williams ’ move to Rochdale brought in £ 100,000 and the club collected a highend five-figure fee for full back Nick Anderton joining Blackpool .
