Stockport Town Stockport Town S FOOTBALL CLUB tockport Town FC is based at the Stockport Sports Village, Lambeth Grove in Woodley and their first team currently competes in Division One of the Hallmark Security League. They are led by Chairman Seb Rowe who is supported by Secretary Rob Clare and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. First established in 2014, the club state on their official website, www.stockporttownfc.co.uk, that their aim is, “to provide a pathway for young talented footballers in Stockport with the vision to be the best club in Stockport for player development.” The club focuses on helping to promote and grow football in the area and aims to play a vital role in the local community both through football and non-football activities particularly in the areas of health and well-being, education and employment, social inclusion and volunteering. Last season their first team put together a solid league campaign as they compiled a record of nineteen wins, eight draws and fifteen defeats from their forty two matches. This saw them finish in a mid-table position with 64 points on the board. This should provide the team with a fine platform from which to build for the 2017-18 campaign. They have been working hard during the off-season to develop the side and as long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be well positioned for a good season. One of the highlights of the team’s performances last season was the attacking brand of football that they were able to produce. This was reflected by the fact that they found the back of the net ninety two times at a rate of more than two per game. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their matches will have been well entertained and this should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue which is particularly important in the current financial climate. Stockport Town FC clearly has a fine set up in place and with their ambitions for the future it appears to be an exciting time to be involved with the club. Everyone at Football Focus Magazine would like to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck for the new season.
