Brockenhurst FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG Brockenhurst FOOTBALL CLUB Brockenhurst FC is a fine example of how playing a vital role in a local community can help a club to flourish. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Chairman Stan Reid to find out more about the good work they have been doing lately. He told us, “I first became involved with the football club in the summer of 2015 when the previous chairman had resigned. My experience of running a football club such as Brockenhurst was little to none but the opportunity to help came at a time when I was looking for something to give my time to.” “I knew nothing about non-league football but must admit that getting involved with the club, its players, supporters and helpers, and, with the local community opened my eyes to a whole new world. Much to my surprise I really enjoyed being part of the club, particularly, when we were able to bring kids to Grigg Lane to watch and play football by integrating the Senior and Youth set-up. “I also had a clear view in my our mind that we needed to give high attention to establishing a club for the Community where everyone has some involvement with us. Bringing Youth football to Grigg Lane and hosting village events such as the annual Fireworks display and the Music, Beer and Cider festival over the late May Bank holiday weekend have helped the club to achieve that. “I also came to appreciate that clubs like ours up and down the country survive through the willing help given by the local community and the many volunteers whose efforts support the club, and without whom we would surely not survive. “Spirits at the club are high following a good season for the Wessex Premier league side who finished 10th of 22 (14th last season) and our newly formed Development and U18 squads who Patrick McManus is Brockenhurst’s first team manager and also sponsors the club through his company, Romsey Car Body Repairs. He recently told Football Focus Magazine, “I’ve been first team manager for five years and am pleased with the progress that has been made during that time. We’re looking to continue to develop the squad at present so that we can build on that success with the aim of breaking into the top half of the table this season.” As a company we’ve sponsored the club for four years and always help out where we can. The bottom line is that local people can contribute a lot to the success of Brockenhurst FC. The more people that know about us and get involved – both on and off the pitch - the more it will help secure the long term future of the club.” 18 Issue 73 will provide opportunities for players to develop their skills and, hopefully, progress to the senior team. “The U18 squad only lost out on winning their Southampton league on goal difference, a great performance in their first season. The new teams also help to bridge the gap between Youth and Senior football and the club is now close to having a full line-up of teams from U6 to Senior. “This is so important to help ensure the club can retain and develop the good young players and not lose them because we can’t provide the opportunities for all ages. The Youth section is flying under Adam Colmer’s leadership with great success last year across their leagues and with Hampshire Cup successes for the U14 and U15 teams.
