THE return of terracing to previously all-seater football stadiums in England
looks to be just around the corner after a landmark decision by the Sports
Ground Safety Authority (SGSA).
They have said that stadiums in
the lower two divisions of the Football
League currently not required to be all-
seater can install what are known as ‘rail
seats’ to replace normal seats.
This follows Celtic installing rail
seats after campaigning by football fans
in Glasgow to bring a form of terracing
back to improve the atmosphere at
games. Stadiums in Scotland are
governed by different rules to those in
England.
Now Premier League clubs are
being consulted on whether they would
be willing to see a pilot project where
rail seats are trialled at clubs in the
top division. A day could be coming
where terracing returns to Old Trafford,
Anfield and The Emirates.
The return of terracing – in whatever
form – is a very emotive subject
