Virginia Water FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG Virginia Water FOOTBALL CLUB V irginia Water FC is based at The Timbers on Crown Road in Surrey and their first team will compete in the Hellenic leagues next season having achieved promotion. They are led by Chairman Dave McBride who is supported by Secretary Graham Poulter and the club is progressing well under their guidance. They state on their official website www.virginiawaterfc. co.uk, that, “our aim is to provide friendly, competitive football for all, developing players from a young age and providing them with a pathway into adult football.” Their first team enjoyed a fantastic campaign last season competing in the Surrey Intermediate League, putting together a record of twenty wins, two draws and four defeats from their twenty six matches. This saw them finish top of the league with sixty two points. The club will have now turned their attentions to preparing for the new campaign and as long as they can retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they should have nothing to fear. One of the highlights of the Virginia Water set up is the superb youth section that they have in place. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress. In order to help make sure that they enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game they also run additional sides. This allows them to gain experience of adult level football even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. Another benefit of having an extra side is that it allows the first team to benefit from far greater strength in depth. If they are ever left short on numbers through injury or work commitments they have the option of calling up replacements with a limited amount of disruption. The success that Virginia Water FC is achieving on the field is a just reward for all of the hard work that has gone into the club. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come.
