FOOTBALL CLUB
B
ryncae FC is a community based senior football team founded in 2005 in a
traditional Welsh mining village, which lies over the south outcrop of the
old South Wales coalfields. Their home ground is Llanilid Pavilion, on the old
open cast site overlooking Bryncae. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up
with their Secretary Steve Richards to find out more about the club.
About
He told us, “We are affiliated with the
South Wales Football Association and
initially joined the Bridgend District
Saturday League Division 1. In our
third year (2008/2009), we completed
the double, finishing champions and
cup winners of that season. We have
two senior teams and play in the
Bridgend District Leagues (1st team in
the Premier Division and Reserves in
League Division 2).
Our best achievement to date is
reaching the SWFA Intermediate Cup Final
in 2009/2010, narrowly losing 1-0. Over the
46 Issue 72
seasons we have won every cup competition in
the Bridgend leagues an d the current aim is to
gain promotion to the higher tier of Welsh
football.”
Present
“The mood here at the moment is
one of excitement. Our area, Bryncae,
is under major development.
A
former open cast site, with over 1700
new houses planned during the next
few years. We are having a surge of
enquiries for all aged group teams, which
we are hoping to take on board when this
development has been completed.
