next year and all at the club are pulling in one direction to achieve this .
2016 / 17 was the most successful season for the club for nearly a decade . We now have all the pieces in place from the management to the players on the pitch , and the club is in a very sound position off the pitch . Towards the end of the season , we won seven games in a row , and this success has really bonded everyone together .”
2017
“ The players are now looking forward to the end of season weekender in Blackpool ! I am sure this will be absolute carnage but a blowout is well deserved by all . Back at the club , we have spent considerable money on the pitch to give the lads the best possible playing surface for next season .
We are also modernising the changing room facilities and club house . We also have our second ever Sports Dinner coming up in September with Tony Cottee and John Stiles as comedian . Our first ever dinner with Dean Windass was a huge success with over 160 people in attendance . These dinners are a great chance to raise the profile of the club and attract local businesses to become involved , as well as raising funds to support our growth .”
Youth
“ Youth football is absolutely paramount to the club ’ s short and long term success . To enable the club to develop , the youth set up is vital . Without the constant flow of well-developed youth players feeding into Westbury United , there is no long term future .
Myself and Greg feel very passionate and this has always been our primary remit when coming into Westbury U n i t e d . Ultimately and if they are good enough , our children may one day represent United and play at Meadow Lane !”
Integration
“ Firstly , both myself and Greg ( Secretary for adult and now Chairman for Youth ), work very closely together to make sure the pathway is clear , simple and attainable .
Next season , we are putting in place a Westbury United Development adult
side . This will add a third team to the adult setup , and aid the pathway for youth players making the transition to adult football . We also have several of the adult players involved in coaching the older age groups at the youth setup . They can help pass on their experience and help the youth make that transition . Our pathway is already baring fruit , and our leading goal scorer and most appearances for the first team this season , has been awarded to a sixteen year old , who came through the youth setup .”
Community
“ We are now a community club ! This was very much part of changing the culture .
I would not have taken my young teenage boys to watch a Westbury United game previously in all honesty . It wasn ’ t a pleasure experience , and not a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon !
Now we are very much part of the community , from regular skittles throughout the week , to local bands
