FOOTBALL CLUB
Westbury United have been working hard in recent times to establish a strong set
up and are now in order to mount a push for promotion next season. Football Focus
Magazine recently caught up with Club Chairman Matt Bright to find out more.
Involvement Culture
He told us, “I have been Chairman of
Westbury United since November 2014.
I was already in place as Chairman of
Westbury Youth where I was building a
relationship between the two clubs.
Previously, lads had spent their entire
youth career developing up to under
18’s, but were not going on to represent
Westbury at adult level. This was what
attracted me to the club, as this pathway
needing establishing to benefit all,
including my own fourteen and twelve
year olds.” “By far the most challenging aspect
of the role is changing the culture of the
club which has existed for a long time.
When myself and our equally dedicated
Secretary Greg Coulson came into
Westbury United, the club was in a bad
place.
There were significant debts behind
the scenes with a frustrated and tired
committee, where most of the jobs
were being done by two people! Most
worryingly, was that we had a poor squad
who were not playing for the club, but
rather playing for themselves. Westbury
42 Issue 72
had a terrible reputation with other clubs,
the league and officials.
Changing this culture over the past
two and half years, and seeing where we
are now has been incredibly difficult, but
hugely rewarding. I am very proud to say
we are the polar opposite from when we
took over.”
Present
“The atmosphere here is excited,
enthusiastic, eager and full of anticipation
for next season. There is an energy around
the place and everyone is gearing up for
next season. We are aiming for promotion
