PC: After a hugely trying first ten games in which we only picked up one point in the league the club has really taken off since December and the excitement for next season is already here. The reserve team are about to play in a cup final and the Development squad have finished an incredible 3rd place in a league playing against Cymru Alliance reserve teams. Very buoyant. FF: How important is youth football to the club? PC: The youth section at Ruthin Town has a long and very proud history and is often seen as the envy of clubs in the local area. Wynne Davies has been Chairman of the section for over twenty five years and without his tireless work with the under 12’s to 38 Issue 72 under 16’s the senior club would have a huge task in maintaining our level of youngsters coming into the senior sides. Ruthin Town is one of very few senior clubs now who do not offer payment to players and therefore our internal progression through our Development Squad to Reserves to First team is the life blood of the club. FF: How do you ensure that young players enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game? PC: When the under 16 players come to the second half of their season we offer the option of players to start joining the senior team in training sessions. We also have a meeting where we present the senior structure of the club to the players and par ents to ensure they have an opportunity to ask questions and understand how they will be moved into the senior club structure.
