FOOTBALL CLUB
aving won promotion last season, this year hasn’t been the easiest
for Ruthin Town, however a good run since the turn of the year has
seen them secure their status and they can now look forward to their 2017/18
campaign with plenty of optimism. Football Focus Magazine recently caught
up with their Chairman Paddy Carney to find out more about the club.
FF: How long have you been involved
and what first attracted you to the club? club to fill the vacancy and agreed to do
so with trepidation.
PC: I started helping at the club in
2007 when my eldest son joined the club
at under 12’s. At first I was a spectator but
with the managers struggling to commit
I offered my assistance in a ‘carry the kit’
type way. As time went on I found myself
further involved and became manager
later that season.
This led to me taking various coaching
badges and I completed my “C” Certificate
in 2011. I then continued as a youth coach
for a further seven years. Four years ago,
when the then Chairman retired, I was
approached by senior members of the FF: What are the most challenging and
rewarding aspects of your role?
PC: The general overseeing of the club
has many aspects and therefore I can be
dealing with people asking about ground
maintenance one minute, club funding /
sustainability/running of match days’
bar etc. another and then dealing with
Managers/Players/supporters in another.
I am however massively indebted
to Bryn Jones who has been our general
secretary for more years than I think
it’s fair to mention, who is the hardest
working and supportive alia you could
ever get.
To see the Town and players
enjoying the clubs continued progress
is very rewarding though. It can be very
rewarding when things go well. We have
been fortunate in that over the last four
years we have won two League Cups,
gained promotion to the Huws Gray
Alliance and more recently won five of
our last six games to secure our safety in
the league. It is also very rewarding to see
lads I once coached make it to the senior
teams and see all the players enjoy the
club’s continued progress.
