Mildenhall Town
FOOTBALL CLUB
M
ildenhall Town FC claimed a fantastic league and cup double last
season and are now preparing for the challenge of step 4 football for
the first time in their history. Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with
their Chairman Martin Tuck to find out how things are coming along.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been involved
with Mildenhall Town Football Club for
16 years now; one year as a committee
member and fifteen years as Chairman.
I have a great passion for football and
I was born in Mildenhall so it was the
ideal way to combine these, plus when
I saw my first game at Non-League step
5 level, I was extremely impressed with
the quality of the play and fitness of the
players at that level.”
The Role
“I would say that there are actually
two extremely challenging aspects of my
role:
26 Issue 72
1. The on-going attraction of
volunteers to the club, non-league football
clubs are so dependent on them.
2. Attracting enough sponsorship
money to ensure that you can continue
to play at the highest level of football that
you feel you can achieve.
So the sustainability of a non-league
football in my view is all about people and
money.”
Atmosphere
“After winning a league and cup
double in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern
Counties League last season and gaining
promotion to step 4 non-league football
for the first time in the club’s history the
mood is obviously very buoyant, along
with a sense of positive anticipation for
the forthcoming season.”
2017
“Firstly, I plan to have a holiday,
although this year I am going away with
our manager, so I expect our wives may
get fed up with all the football talk!
Secondly, we will ensure that the
ground is neat and tidy for the pre-season
fixtures and the start of the season in a
new league.
Finally and most importantly, I will
support the team home and away through
to the New Year hoping that we can make
a positive start and be competitive in a
higher league.”
