There is plenty of good work being
carried out at Ashton Athletic at present
but their undoubted highlight came
winning the Lancashire FA Challenge
Trophy. They defeated Radcliffe Borough
2-1 in the final in the biggest game of their
history.
It was a fantastic achievement for the
team’s players, management, committee
and fans. The match itself was played at
Bolton Wanderers Macron Stadium and
turned into a night to remember.

co.uk after the match, Chairman Jimmy
Whyte said, “Oh my goodness we have
only gone and done it. Ashton Athletic
Beta Trophies was started 25 years ago by Ron and
Eva Wanstall as a therapeutic profitable hobby after Ron
was made redundant. It soon expanded with a variety of
customers, football clubs both leagues and non-leagues;
the boy’s brigades; Disability Partnerships; Riding for
the disabled RDA; a number of junior and high schools
achievement awards during the year and sports day and
fun days; large company sport events and recognition
awards in and around the North West Area.
Beta Trophies built up a reputation for personal and
quality service. Ron and Eva have 4 grandchildren who
are interested in a wide range of sports from horse riding,
basketball, running, tennis and the 3 grandson’s still playing
football to a good level.

Although Ron and Eva are still keeping an active hand in
the business this is now being handed over to two of their
grandsons who are keen to carry this on and develop it
further working with other businesses and sporting clubs.
