Dunbar United
FOOTBALL CLUB
I
t has been a season to remember for Dunbar United with their first team
winning their league to secure promotion. Football Focus Magazine recently
caught up with Club Representative Geoff Jones to gain an insight into their
success.
FF: How’s the general mood down at the
club at the moment?
GJ: The club is in a very good place at
the minute. We secured our first league
championship in over twenty years on 6th
May meaning promotion to the Premier
League - that’s given everyone at the
club and within the wider community a
real boost. It’s exciting times for Dunbar
United.
FF: How would you say the season has
gone for the club so far?
GJ: Well we have won the league and
secured promotion to the Premier League
with a game to spare, our first trophy in 17

years and our first league title in 20 years,
so you can’t ask for any more than that.
We did this with a 100% home record and
only two defeats all season.
We also got to the last 16 of the Scottish
Junior Cup, which is a tremendous
achievement considering the league we
are in and the quality of teams that we
played. We lost to Glenafton Athletic
who are now in the final, and we gave
them a real fright despite playing most
of the game with 10 men. This season has
been phenomenal, and probably won’t be
matched again in terms of statistics.
FF: What are your plans for the rest of
2017?
GJ: It’s a well-earned break before
we come back and start preseason in late
June ahead of our first ever season in the
Premier League. I need to supplement the
current squad with one or two players of
better quality in order to give the club a
chance of competing in the league above.
However we can go and enjoy ourselves
over the remainder of this year.
There is no expectation on us apart
from that which we place on ourselves,
which is a stark contrast to this year where
I made it clear that the expectation was
we win the league and our fans were also
expecting similar success.
