Matlock Town

Matlock Town FOOTBALL CLUB

Matlock Town Fc was first established around 130 years ago and the club has gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud . Perhaps their most successful period came in the 1970s when they won the FA Trophy at Wembley as well as the Northern Premier League Cup in 1978 .
The club has enjoyed particular success in the the Derbyshire Senior Cup which they have won on nine occasions with the most recent success coming in 2015 . Their current group of players will be keen to add to the club ’ s past successes over the coming years .
At present they are based on Causeway Lane and their first team competes in the Premier Division of the Evo-Stik League . They are led by Chairman Tom Wright who is supported by Treasurer Jeremy Taylor and the club is looking to progress under their guidance .
Their first team put together a strong league campaign this time around , compiling a record of twenty two wins , nine draws and fifteen defeats from their forty six matches . This saw them finish in the top half of the table with seventy-five points on the board .
This should provide them with a perfect platform from which to build as they look ahead to their 2017-18 campaign . As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league and mounting a challenge for promotion .
Matlock Town is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also run an Academy team . This side looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential .
It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered . It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress over the coming years .
There is clearly much to admire about the fine set up that Matlock Town currently has in place . Hopefully they will be able to keep up the good work for many years to come and everyone at Football Focus Magazine wishes them the best of luck .
