Leatherhead won the Ryman Premier League South ( Managed by Neil Grant ) and our U14s also won their league ( Managed by Jake Mehdawi ). Already this season we ’ ve seen the likes of academy graduates , Calum Davies , Evan Lopes and Louis Downey come into the 1st team with players like Joe Loftus- Cheek ( Brother of Ruben Loftus cheek at Chelsea ) and Ryan Andrews ( Who ’ s also our Cameraman for games ) pushing for the 1st team .”
Community
“ Within the last year we ’ ve come further then we ’ ve come in the last 110 year reign and me and my press team have been going out into the streets with a marquee and leaflets and just letting people know that we ’ re a small community club that wants to get more involved with its surrounding area . Our attendances have rocketed this season by 13.5 % and our social media following has gone crazy with people tweeting saying that , ‘ we love of the club !”
Facilities
“ Fetcham Grove is an old stadium and like any other old stadiums you always have parts where you think ‘ This needs to be fixed ’ whether that be the leaky shower in the dressing room or the main stand which is a bit tatty but it ’ s a stadium which is unique and so old fashioned that new fans come to games and just fall in love with it .”
Challenges / Ambitions
“ It ’ s fair to say the club has a large number of old fans so I think it ’ s going to be a big challenge to get young fans involved within the club . However we ’ re doing lots of community work with local schools and hospitals which we hope to engage more with our community and increase our fan base .
I think personally we ’ re going to be looking for promotion into the Conference South in the coming years . Meanwhile , we ’ ll also be looking to get attendances at that 500 mark which we did towards the end of this season . I think though at the moment everyone is relatively happy at the club so there won ’ t be a target which we ’ ll say ‘ We have to reach ’ it ’ ll be just more of an aspirational one .”
Craig Farrand of Structural Renovations recently took the time to tell us more about his positive association with the club saying , “ I first started sponsoring Leatherhead around ten years ago when I moved to the area .
They are a good community club and we continue to sponsor the U18s at present . Both my boys , Will ( aged 10 ) and Tommy ( aged 7 ), have been ball boys at the club and I get along to watch all their home games and some away matches . It ’ s been a season with plenty of ‘ twists and turns ’ so a special congratulations is due for their fine performance in the league .”
