The Role
“The most challenging aspect of being press
officer is keeping up to date with all the various on
field and off field activities and wherever possible
getting publicity in the local media (newspapers
and radio). It’s rewarding when the media report
anything on the club and follow up their interest.
Our match against St Neots on April 15th will
see BBC Wiltshire present their sports show from
Hardenhuish Park, including live commentary
on the game, with myself as summariser! A great
honour for a club at our level.”
Atmosphere
“Chippenham Town have been in the
Southern Premier division play-offs four times
so to finally win promotion and not have to
go through the lottery of the play offs has left
everyone connected with the club feeling elated
and ready to party. The last game of the season
(home to St Ives) sees the annual visit by the
Norwegian Branch of our supporters’ club. They
need no excuse to party so I am sure the visit of 40
or so of our friends from Norway will add extra
spice to the last game.”
This Season
“The season has been superb, culminating in
an unbeaten run of twenty three games which
saw us clinch the Championship of the Southern
Premier. Considering the quality of clubs in the
Southern League some fans are still pinching
themselves.”
Sheldon School boast excellent facilities for
hire. Our Sports Hall, with five badminton
courts, is available for individual or club hire.
Five a side football is a popular sport with
many local firms sending teams to play in
the Sports Hall or on our floodlight astro turf
pitches. Local cricket teams are very popular
in our Sports hall in the winter months as we
are one of the few venues that offer nets for
practice.
Our school hall is growing in popularity
for local theatre and dance groups to host
their annual shows. The school also has
two dance studios which are well booked
by a local ballet school and other dance
groups. We are very excited that one of our
old dance studios is going to be replaced
by a grand new build with internal changing
rooms and classroom to be ready early next
year for both our students and our hirers.
Finally the school offers excellent meeting
rooms, also classrooms to run courses in the
holidays or evenings which are equipped in
the latest technology.
