Ashton Town FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/FOOTYFOCUSMAG Ashton Town Association FOOTBALL CLUB A shton Town AFC has endured a difficult campaign at first team level this time around but still retains a strong group of volunteers working hard to ensure that the club has bright future. Football Focus Magazine recently spoke with their Secretary Stefan Ochwat. Involvement He told us, “I have been involved with Ashton Town for 13 years, initially as assistant coach with the under 18s team and latterly as club secretary. The club had a link with a junior club called Wigan Junior Latics, this was the junior supporter section of Wigan Athletic Supporters club. My son had played in this Wigan 36 Issue 71 Junior Latics team from under 10s to under 16s, the supporters junior club finished at the under 16s age group and so Ashton Town used this link as their yearly feed into their under 18s team who played in the North West Youth Alliance league and still do to this day. After a number of years my son moved onto pastures new but I stayed involved with Ashton Town as initially, like a lot of dads, you get involved with football to support your son or daughter and afterwards when they move on or finish you still have an interest for yourself and this is what I found.” The Role “The most challenging aspects are trying to keep a club alive at grass roots
