There is a positive mood at the club at present as the
1st XI look fairly certain of gaining promotion to the
Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division
I joined the committee and was
actually Secretary for the first time for
a couple of years in the early seventies
before moving out of the area. The club
built on its early success and moved up
to Senior Football for the 1971/72 season
when being accepted into the Cornwall
Combination League.
Three difficult seasons were spent with
the mainly West orientated Cornish clubs
before switching leagues to the more mid
and East Cornwall located clubs. The club
remained in the East Cornwall Premier
League from 1973/74 to 2011/12.
After having a successful last season
in the ECPL and again winning three
trophies the club decided it was time
to move forward again and joined the
Carlsberg South West Peninsula League
(Step 7) for the 2012/13 season. The 1st XI
won the Cornwall Charity Cup in 2012/13
and have finished a creditable fourth,
fourth, fifth and third in their first four
seasons at a higher level.
At present (February 2017) the 1st XI
sit proudly at the top of the Carlsberg
South West Peninsula league (West),
twenty four points clear of their nearest
rivals. The club has continued to run a
Junior team in the Duchy League.
I rejoined the club as Secretary for the
1999/2000 season where I remain. One of
the most challenging aspects of the role is
to ensure that the administration of the
club is as efficient as it can be.
When a season has ended and both
teams have not had any points deducted
for poor administration, or fines from the
County or Leagues for other indescretions
then I know I have done something right.
I.T. has certainly helped considerably to
get things done in a more efficient manner
with statistics and meeting minutes
circulated to committee members at the
click of a button.
