FOOTBALL CLUB
N
eedham Market FC has enjoyed a positive season this
time around, currently sitting in third place in the league.
Football Focus Magazine caught up with their Secretary Mark Easlea
to find out more about the good work that the club has been doing.
Atmosphere
He told us, “Last season was our first at
Step 3 in The Ryman Premier League and
we found it tough which, unsurprisingly,
reflected in attitudes around the club. This
season though it is much brighter as it can
be seen by the work that has been done by
the Management Team backed up by the
excellent Clubs Academy.”
Youth
“Youth football is essential to the long-
lasting future of the club through their
Academy. Needham Market FC Academy
74 Issue 70
operates an elite football excellence and
education programme aimed at male and
female 16-18 year olds with a passion for
sport. The Academy provides them with
the best opportunity and environment
to enhance their academic and football
development.
The Academy combines practical
playing with academic achievement
and life skills, providing all its student
athletes with an excellent stepping stone
to combine progression in football, sports
coaching, physical education and sports
development. The Academy is an exit
route for youth players within Needham
Market Phoenix Youth and has the
potential to be the stepping stone for their
development into the first team.”
Progression
“Naturally, a successful team will
always have clubs looking at players
which again is the case this year. In the
past few years we have had several of our
Academy youngsters going on to trials
at Barnet, Brentford Town, Colchester
United and Ipswich Town.
We have particular close links with
Colchester United and Ipswich Town and
last season Kieran Morphew, perhaps
the most outstanding player to have
